Dear parents we live and exist in scary times. And gadget addition is an everyday reality.
You need to let the kids know that it is extremely harmful to chat and be friends with people whom they don’t know. Posting and sharing photographs and personal information on these sites is extremely dangerous. There is no dearth of frightening cases all around. Things don’t always happen to ‘OTHERS’. We could easily be those ‘others’.
I request all of you to please do spot checks of your children’s laptop and mobile phones at home as you never know who they could be following and who could be following them on these sites!
Our students are very dear to us hence this needs utmost attention. I would like to inform you that we have blocked all such sites at school and request you to support us in this regard. The onus is on us to educate them and that’s the only way ahead.
We seek your cooperation and understanding to take this forward. Let’s not forget, we’re in it together!
With the exams just ahead, I am sure you are spending quality time with your children and helping them revise their lessons. Please ensure a balanced timetable and adequate sleep. All the best to the children and probably you too who must equally be psyched up and tense.

TEACHER’S DAY SPECIAL

Everyone who remembers his own education remembers teachers, not methods and techniques. The teacher is the heart of the educational system.

– Sidney Hook

Namaste Dear Parents,

Here’s a letter dedicated to the TEACHERS OF SUCHITRA ! Please read on for some interesting news from the Campus….

STRANGER DANGER

As a routine, the topic of ‘Stranger Danger’ and ‘Good touch Bad touch’ is done every month in class in different ways. On Thursday 30th August, the teachers had a question and answer session with the kids. It was amazing to hear how our kids especially the Sr. KG students came up with answers and ideas on the topic.

JANMASHTAMI CELEBRATION

In order to celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna, a celebration was organized in the Pre-primary section on Friday 31st August. All our kids came dressed as Radha and Krishna. Children danced to the songs of Janmashtami. A ‘Matki Phod’ event was also organized. Kids formed a pyramid with the help of teachers and Madhav from Nursery was our little Krishna for the day, who broke the pot. Kids enjoyed collecting sweets showered from the broken pot. Later kids enjoyed listening to the stories on Lord Krishna.

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION

Teachers’ Day is celebrated every year on the 5th of September to honour and acknowledge the contribution made by the teachers in helping and moulding the students. Keeping this in mind, our students of grade XI dedicated beautiful cultural performances to the teachers and it was hugely appreciated by one and all. The students of grade IX and X played the teachers role for that part of the day. The environment echoed with the wishes for teachers, students also got cards and flowers for their teachers. The management of the school was very kind to appreciate the hard work of teachers and they also surprised the teachers with lovely gifts. This day was made special by all the students and the management for the teachers for their sincere dedication and efforts

VISIT TO THE POST-OFFICE

Field trips are means of educating students on how certain things work and how we rely on certain services. On Friday, 7th September our pre-primary kids visited the Lal Bazar Post-office. The kids and teachers were welcomed warmly by the staff at the post-office. They were taken around to see how letters are collected, segregated, stamped and then stored in pigeon holes for the postmen to collect. To understand the process better kids wrote a small message to themselves and posted it to the school address. It was altogether a great learning experience especially in these times of email and WhatsApp! It will be delightful to see the kid’s expression when they receive the mail.

Janmashtami was celebrated with great passion, zeal and festivity by the students of Grade IB on Tuesday ,28th August. They played the roles of Sri Krishna, Gopikas and other characters related to Janmashtami. They portrayed various events from Krishna’s life- his birth, stealing Maakhan, Rasleela and Kansa- Vadh. This presentation made the children aware of some of the Indian traditions, customs and culture. It conveyed the strong message of “victory of good over evil.”

LIGHTS CAMERA ACTION

To break the daily routine a ROLE PLAY activity for Grades I to III was organized on Thursday, 30th August. The joy of role play is that students can become anyone they like! A king, a queen or a millionaire…..the choices are endless! Children brought characters from books and history alive with their autobiographical speeches. It was an adorable sight to behold Indira Gandhi and Swami Vivekananda rubbing shoulders with Spiderman, Cinderella, astronauts and army men!

VIGYANTRAM AAKAR IIT BOMBAY WORKSHOP

NEWS FROM HIGH SCHOOL 3

A workshop on HUMANOIDS AND QUADCOPTERS was conducted at TIME School, Kandlakoya in collaboration with VIGYANTRAM – AAKAR – IIT BOMBAY on 30th and 31st August. Around 180 participants from different schools and 45 students from our school were part of the workshop. They were given a brief idea about machines, robotics as a branch of technology, history of robotics and application areas. Students were given kits and then the resource person explained about each and every component i.e.

transistors , diodes, sensors , LED , regulators , analog / digital ranges , breadboard , Arduino Uno ( heart of the system).

Our students won all the three positions in Quadcopters and were declared the Zonal Winners. They have qualified for the semi-final round at IIT Bombay.

THE POLITICAL STRATEGIST

Political Science students of Grade XI participated in a classroom activity: ‘The Political IMG_20180828_101025Strategist’. In this activity, one student (acting as an insider leaking Intel to other countries) had gone missing and the other students divided into the legislative (those chalking out probable areas of hiding) and executive (those carrying out the task of infield search and surveillance) were assigned the task to track down the ‘Insider’ before she shared the Intel. The students came together to think of all the possible places with a logical explanation for hiding, ratified the places with the teacher (who would accept or reject the logic after questioning) and then tried to hunt the traitor. This taught the group, IMG_20180828_095753lessons on how the legislature keeps in perspective enormous personal and impersonal factors while thinking of laws; the power of communication between the legislature and executive; the importance of ratification to add weightage to any decision and the challenges faced iexecuting decisions.

GRADE IV- FIELD TRIP TO PLASTIC RECYCLING FACTORY

We used to be plastic bottles containing flavoured drinks, coke, lemon, and orange that everybody enjoyed drinking. One day, thirsty children emptied our bellies to fill theirs.40466581_2291842120831354_3758449048059641856_n They quenched their thirst and no longer cared about us. ‘

Don’t we deserve a second chance?’ they wondered. ‘And our chance came.’ ‘Look at us! How magic hands recycled us and turned the poor us into little marvels.’

Today we have a serious problem with pollution but we can significantly reduce this impact, just by being aware and knowing that recycling is reuse. It is necessary to ‘Recycle Plastic to Save and Clean the Environment’. As part of the PBL enquiry project- Where does the garbage go? Students of Grade IV visited the plastic recycling factory “Ananya Green Tech” which has the modern infrastructure for reprocessing plastic in an environment-friendly manner.

40407545_2291843484164551_6427406438066290688_nThey learnt how the plastic is dried, melted and formed into granules, which can be used for manufacturing many new products. These granules are then sold to companies to make different products, such as floor mats, tiles, furniture, detergent bottles, pipes and pails. In the process of understanding waste management, our children learnt 3 magic words- Reuse, Reduce and Recycle and its importance. This trip exposed them to some real time experience which no Utube videos could have given. In this Digital age too some things can be best learnt through real exposure (non-hazardous) instead of virtual. And at Suchitra you can be rest assured that safety of the children would remain our first concern and towards this a first hand recce’ had been done in advance.

VISIT TO GHMC

The students of Grade IV visited the GHMC office at Chandannagar onWhatsApp Image 2018-09-05 at 6.39.36 AM Wednesday, th September, to understand the working of GHMC as a part of their PBL enquiry 2 – ‘Where does the garbage go?’ and the importance of Swachh Bharath Abhiyan. Mr. Anuragh, the chief engineer of Swachh Bharath Abhiyan, briefed our children about the GHMC hierarchy, the roles and responsibility of each portfolio, segregation of waste, dumping of waste from all the

landfills to the main land fill which is at Javahar Nagar in Hyderabad. The students were actively involved and asked queries which were clarified by Mr. Anuragh.

TEACHERS DAY CELEBRATION

Enthusiasm and festivity marked the Teachers Day celebrations at Suchitra Academy when the teachers came dressed in their retro look. The school was gripped with fervor as the students of Grade XI put their best foot forward to thank their teachers for all the efforts that they put in to nurture young lives. The presentation was nothing less than a roller coaster ride with foot tapping music, electrifying dance moves and a musical skit which triggered a laugh riot in the audience.

Dear parents, we are what we are only and only because of the teachers here. Kids love school because they love the teachers; and trust us, teachers work extremely hard to be ‘lovable’.  Whether it is a classroom full of noisy kids or an annoying situation at home, we train ourselves hard to maintain our ‘cool’

       NEWS FROM HIGH SCHOOL                7

and not pass on our ‘irritations’ to the ones in our care. Please believe us when I say this requires endless patience, training of ourselves, control and restraint. I am sure you, as parents know all about losing your tempers with your own children!

The treat that Grade  XI presented us with will remain with us for a long time.

Just the other day, I was asked to speak about why I am a teacher and this is what I had to say-

Once upon a time we were all small and we all played ‘teacher-teacher’. And then, we grew up ! Period. one wanted to play teacher-teacher anymore, including me. Anything but a teacher ! Till the day the profession chose me by accident, kept sucking me in till I actually realised that is what I was meant to be – a teacher. I am so proud of the work I do, so convinced of the difference I make that I will not exchange it for anything in the world.

— On that note I wind this up, till later.

MEDICAL CAMP

Keeping in line with our belief that preventive check-up data becomes the baseline for future reference for parents, a Medical Camp was organized by us and conducted by Aaditya Hospital on 13-14th August. Ten doctors along with support staff gave students of Grades I-XI a General Health and Dental check up. We heartily thank our ever supportive Dr. Kiran, a parent himself, of providing the services of his hospital and Doctors for 2 days in a row. Thank you Dr. Kiran.

SPECIAL ASSEMBLIES

MY COUNTRY IS BEING CELEBRATED WITH JOY, FERVOUR AND GREAT ENTHUSIASM

The same could be seen in the special assembly presented by Grade III C on Tuesday, 14th August. The children displayed their love and shared their dreams about this country. They urged today’s generation to value the freedom we have secured after the sacrifices of many. The children showcased their patriotism as they sang and danced with pride to the melodious patriotic tunes.

A PATRIOTIC RIOT WITHIN SCHOOL AND BEYOND

Students of Grade IX came together expressing their notions, emotions and patriotism towards their country through melodious symphonies in the forms of a dance, a song and a skit titled “Our Freedom Struggle – Sacrifices Made and Values To Learn.”  Is Independence Day treated as just another holiday? Has 71 years of being independent moved us into forgetting the 200 years of struggle faced by the country and its freedom fighters? These pressing questions moved the audience into introspecting if our needle of patriotism needed refining and oiling. The program ended with the key message:

DO NOT TREAT INDEPENDENCE DAY ALONE AS THE DAY TO CELEBRATE YOUR NATIONALITY AND YOUR CITIZENSHIP!!

The students then visited the AYUSHA NILAYAM ORPHANAGE as a part of their

o1o2Community Activity Service (CAS) and celebrated the rest of the first half of their day with the kids at the orphanage. They made

donations in kind; spent time and performed for the kids once again  taking their one step a day to becoming better citizens of future India.

THE BEST WAY TO BE HAPPY IS TO MAKE SOMEONE HAPPY

2d2Grade II D extended the same thought through their special assembly- HAPPINESS IS VIRAL GO INFECT SOMEONE on Tuesday, 21st August. Through their song, dance and small skits, the children showcased that happiness isn’t about getting what you want all the time, but it’s about loving what you have and being grateful for it.

SAVE THE EARTH

Students of Class IIE presented their special assembly on the topic SAVE THE EARTH on Saturday, 18th   August. Through this presentation the students communicated that earth must be protected for life to go on. Children performed with the intent to spread awareness about the importance of earth and motivated people to save earth in order to give our future generations a safe and healthy environment.

FIELD TRIPS

WHAT ARE WE DOING WITH THE WASTE ?

To make the students appreciate the importance of environment and it’s protection, they sa1were exposed to garbage management. Towards the same, during the first phase they understood the process of garbage collection at school as well as at home. To move their journey forward, they were taken on a field trip to GHMC dump yard on Monday, 20th August. They visited the dump yard to sensitize themselves about the litter that they generate as part of their PBL enquiry project- “ Where does the garbage go?”

They were given a close exposure to different kinds of waste like wet waste and dry waste, its segregation and its dispatch to various recycling agencies for its treatment and reuse. The place was surrounded with a large number of GHMC trucks which collects garbage from the surrounding areas and  gets it to this  central  location. Children found the place repulsive in the beginning, but left with a better understanding about waste management.

VISIT TO EMRI

The students of Grades VII-VIII visited GVK EMRI (Emergency Management and Research Institute), Hyderabad on Friday, 24th August. They were thrilled to see the highly equipped Emergency Response System that coordinates every emergency through a single toll free number 1-0-8 ensuring prompt communication and activation of a response along with a well trained Emergency Medical Technician to

render quality pre-hospital care and transport of the patient to the appropriate health care facility.  This helped them understand why 108 has been acknowledged as the most efficient, speedy, reliable and caring service provider in its category.

SPECIAL ACTIVITY

Story telling has been an integral part of our childhood. To keep the tradition going and to incite curiosity and the love for reading in children, a story telling session by parents was conducted on Thursday, 23rd August as a part of the special activity. Parents of WhatsApp Image 2018-08-23 at 17.54.09Grade I-III volunteered to narrate stories to our children. Each parent narrated a story to a class.

The sessions were indeed valuable and distinct. Children found it really interesting and were engrossed in the story of “Water” which was told to them with creative gestures and facial expressions. The appropriate use of voice modulation and body language infused passion, enhanced imagination, expression and introduced children to new horizons of storytelling.  Each story concluded with a moral highlighting different values of life.

GIVING IS NOT JUST ABOUT MAKING A DONATION; IT’S ABOUT MAKING A DIFFERENCE!

k1We made an appeal to parents to donate generously to help the people of Kerala who have been affected by one of the deadliest deluges to have hit the country in the last century;  and how they responded!!

Dear parents, we are overwhelmed with the alacrity and the magnanimity with which you responded- what started as a trickle in the morning continued with parents dropping in through the day contributing abundantly to the cause. Just looking at the packages wrapped up carefully made one understand how much effort had been put into the task!k2

Thank you – God bless all of you!

Four and a half truck loads of material was dispatched to the Collection Centre where it was all sorted, repacked and is ready to move out today. Could not have asked for a more generous set of parents and staff at Suchitra!

                 NEWS FROM HIGH SCHOOL                7

Dear parents on Friday, 10th August I attended a Conference in Taj Krishna, organised by Trailblazers an Adventure Travel Group operating out of Mumbai.

As an educator who believes that our kids learn more out of life than in the classroom, I found Trailblazer’s mission of using the adventure activities as a basis of learning skills and life, fascinating. The more I interacted with the team, the more impressed I was with their research, expertise and passion.

I do hope that in future we would use their services to enhance learning and adaptability in our students.

I had sought a feedback from our children with regard to their favourite destination for an Excursion during the October Holidays. Kodaikanal has emerged as the winner! So we are going ahead and finalizing KODAIKANAL as the place for our annual Term Break excursion for Grades VI to XI. We are sending Consent slips for you to fill up and return by Monday along with the first installment of Rs. 15,000/-.

We have planned an adventure outbound program for Grades IV and V at the same time, the cost of the program is Rs. 3850/-. It’s a one night out bound program at Vikarabad. We are sending consent slips for you to fill up and return by Monday.

Please allow your kids to go and not miss out on a chance to travel and learn. Also we are finalizing students on the first cum first serve basis so please confirm your seats at the earliest.

Warm Regards

Renu Shorey

Director Principal, Suchitra Academy
