Namaste Dear Parents,
We come to the end of a rather successful year. The new academic session winks at us from a distance and we remind ourselves of the tasks that lie ahead of us as we take renewed responsibility for your child’s multi-dimensional improvement.
Here’s the fortnightly round up of the medley of activities at Suchitra. Please read on for some interesting news from the Campus….
NEWS FROM PRE-PRIMARY
“Don’t just teach your children to read…. Teach them to question what they read. Teach them to question everything.” Goerge Colin.
PRE-PRIMARY GRADUATION DAY
Suchitra Academy celebrated the preschool Graduation Day on Wednesday 21st February. It was a day full of jubilation, euphoria and excitement. The chief guest for the occasion was Mrs. Sangeeta Pamnani, head of Glendale, Edufun, a chain of preschools. All the parents of Sr. KG students were present for the occasion. The students left everybody spellbound with their performances. Vibrant music, dance, breathtaking colours and highly co-ordinated movements, promptly set the tone and mood of the atmosphere. Another show-stealing performance was the Jodha Akbar skit, which was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone. The most important part of the Graduation Ceremony was the Sr. KG students adorned in convocation caps and ponchos, walking the stage. Their smiling faces were welcomed by rapturous applause from the audience as they received certificates of excellence. In the end Mrs. Sangeeta Pamnani and our Dir. Principal Mrs. Renu Shorey addressed the gathering and emphasized intelligences that exist in each child. Mrs. Pamanani stressed on paying due attention to development of EQ, just as we do to IQ.

NEW ACADEMIC SESSION BEGINS
Monday, 19th February was the beginning of THE NEW ACADEMIC SESSION for Grades IX-X. The students began the day interacting with their class teacher and enjoyed team building activities.
As part of the special activity the students of Grade IX had a brain storming session on Thursday, 22nd February. The students were divided into groups and were given a few contemporary topics for discussion.
They were given the liberty to choose their stand in favour or against the topic. They have been given a week’s time to prepare, research, analyze and will be presenting their views and analysis on Thursday, 1st March.
(Free) Expression- The Base of Human Rights!
A street play- an enormously popular genre of drama was tried out in the volley ball court by a group of Grade V children on 20th February, 2018. The theme of their play was Human Rights, a lesson in their Social Science text. And what a simple, effective method of learning it was- the nuances of human rights was conveyed beautifully and fluidly to the audience which comprised of students from Grades V and VI along with their teachers.
What a shot in the arm it was for the teacher, Mrs. Divya Gupta when she received a letter from a parent appreciating her effort! We reproduce the letter below-
|Thank you very much for sharing the video. It’s a nice idea to have such activities. The impact of listening in this form rather than in a classroom setup, I’m sure is not only fun but would be grasped much better by students. Kudos to you for this innovative idea and putting it in to action. You have been an amazing teacher and hope you could be Sreemayi’s class teacher for 6th Grade too.|

This is my last newsletter to you for this Academic Year. But this unbroken chain of almost 7 years will reappear soon after we reopen.
At this point I would wish to draw your attention to some of the issues disturbing us all and leaving us shocked. Yes I am talking about episodes like – shooting a principal dead ( in fact 2 cases in quick succession), a gang of 4 of grade IX beating another student to death, a student killing a boy in the wash room and another slitting the throat, posting obscene messages threatening of rape and abuse to the teacher on fb by a student of 13 years ( today’s newspaper).
Then there are cases of underage driving ! Virtually young messengers of death, let loose on the roads by careless parents ! Thankfully, there are cases of parents being arrested for this. Watch out and please do not succumb to pressure from your kids. Hide those car/ bike keys, if you must.
In this scenario we as a school feel so vulnerable and helpless. Every other day we take disciplinary measures against erring children and whose rage will get us hurt, we have no idea. The other day we had a case of 3 boys holding down another boy and beating him with such pent up rage! It was class changeover time. It was frightening and they were totally out of control for a while till the teacher walked in and intervened.
You parents will need to pay some serious attention to the lives of your adolescent children. Please do not consider them ‘babies’ any more. None of us realised when they ‘grew’ up so much! Trust them but not blindly, listen to them but not inattentively. The signs will be visible if you start looking for them, which you must. Only way is for you to MAKE TIME TO TALK TO THEM ON A DAILY BASIS; questioning, listening, probing !
I write all this not to sensationalise but to share that these disturbing incidents are at our door step and we alone are responsible to take steps to safeguard ourselves and our kids. We at our end, work at these issues all the time.
At the same time, If I look back on the year, I feel a deep sense of satisfaction and achievement and immense gratefulness !
Each time my day has begun poorly because of some unpleasant episode, the rest of the day has been made so wonderful because of the huge appreciation and affection of most of you! Honestly, at the end of the day I am generally left feeling enriched, appreciated and satisfied with what my team and I are able to do for the kids in our care.
We all shall carry on with our jobs till the time we can go back home feeling elated and successful.
